I've
always been a fan of "Stargate", both of the movie
and the TV Series "SG-1". During my year in Iraq,
when we weren't on mission we had a lot of downtime. My roommate
bought a TV off the Hajjis and I had a laptop computer we
were able to run through it so during our downtime we watched
whatever DVDs we could get our hands on. During a mission
to Baghdad, I hit that big PX at BIAP and they had several
seasons of "Stargate SG-1" on DVD. I bought the
first two and we watched them when we got back and very much
enjoyed them. Over the rest of the tour, I was able to pick
up the first seven seasons at various PX's or over Ebay and
we watched every single episode and really got into them.
After we were done with each episode, there was always a long
list of other soldiers wanting to borrow them. We passed them
all around the Company so many others could enjoy them as
well.
During
this time, I learned Jack O'Neill had been captured by the
Iranians during of covert mission earlier in his military
career. Recently, as I started compiling people for our Honorary
Desert Vets segment of this page, I remembered that mission
and was pleased to be able to grant Jack O'Neill this status.
Air
Force Major General Jack O'Neill is a fictional character
from the Sci-Fi Channel's Series "Stargate SG-1"
played by Richard Dean Anderson of "MacGyver"
fame. As with all our Honorary Desert Vets, Jack O'Neill portrays
a Desert Vet with all the finest qualities that we hold dear.
He honors us with his representation of us.
