The Artists To Soldiers
Project is an effort to send a visual message
to soldiers on active duty everywhere. As civilian
artists, we can show them
'We're thinking about YOU' through
our art.
The goal is to create
a portable, mini-art-gallery consisting of 10 - 12
printed sheets of artwork created to let them know
that we (civilians) are thinking about them. These
gallery packages will demonstrate a variety of styles,
mediums and interpretations all with the same goal
in mind.
If for just one
minute in a day filled with perhaps hours of horror,
they are reminded there is a real world waiting for
them...then it's goal has been achieved. If that minute
happens a couple times a week, some comfort has been
given and maybe even provided a smile.
It's all about wanting them to know we're thinking
about them, we care, we respect them, we're proud
of them and we thank them, as people, as individuals,
as human beings. If nothing more, it will be a spot
of color in drab surroundings, a continuing reminder
there is still color in the world. These gallery packages
will be made available (at no cost) to military families
to send to their soldiers.
The initial 'test market' package (to gauge interest)
will consist of four pieces by working artists, four
of art created by children and four from artists that
are also veterans. If the project proves itself to
be popular, separate gallery packages for 'Artists
To Soldiers', 'Children To Soldiers' and 'Veterans
To Soldiers' (10 - 12 printed pieces of art each)
will be developed from which to choose. |

will provide an extra special message.

A targeted deadline for the creation of this test
market package is April 1st, 2006. Once this gallery
package is created, it will be sent to a soldier to
get their reaction and others in their unit. Then
links back to the ArtistsToSoldiers.org site
can be placed on various sites catering to the needs
of military families for ordering information. Also,
with these first examples able to be shown on the
site, more artists will become involved and more gallery
packages will be able to be developed.
